Homemade Acne Treatments

While a lot of us are familiar with the more prominent acne solutions such as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, did you know that there are a quite a few homemade acne treatments out there as well? If not, then you will definitely want to continue reading as that is what we’re focusing on in today’s article.

Many of these homemade acne treatments use common items that you probably have in your home right now. We’re going to go over some of these homemade acne treatments, including how to properly use them and why they work.

Ice

Ice applied to a pimple works the same way as ice used to treat a sprain or similar injuries. It’s all about inflammation reduction.

Take one or several ice cubes and wrap them in a washcloth. Then apply it using light pressure on the pimple for one to two minutes. This will constrict the blood vessels which will lead to a lessening of the swelling and redness.

Orange Peels

Who would have imagined that oranges could be useful as a homemade acne treatment? Well, vitamin C works as a natural antioxidant which aids in skin regeneration.

Simply peel an orange and grind the peels with water to form a paste. Using a cotton swab, apply on any blemished areas and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Then wash off the paste with warm water and pat dry.

Aspirin

Before you run out to the store to buy a product that contains salicylic acid, you may want to take a peek in your medicine cabinet. If you happen to have aspirin in there, then crush one up in water just like the orange peels until you get a nice smooth paste.

Apply to any acne spots with a cotton swab and let sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off and pat dry. The main active ingredient in aspirin? Yep, you guessed it, salicylic acid.
