How Lack Of Oxygen Causes Acne & Ways To Stop It
One minute bacteria on your skin is not harmful, and then it is causing a major breakout. Researchers found the answer regarding oxygen, a discovery that could create new solutions within a couple of years.
Here at the University of California, Professor Gallo and his colleagues have found that a simple bacteria can quickly become bad. When it finds itself with no oxygen, in area surrounded by greasy follicles of hair, it can trigger inflammation and acne.
Cascade of chemicals
Inflammation occurs when the bacteria turns to sebum in close by cells of the skin. By analyzing combinations of different bacteria on human skin, enzymes that usually block inflammation were deactivated by fatty acids. Once that block is gone, skin cells produce chemicals that aggravate the inflammation causing acne.
Unfortunately, the answer is not about scrubbing the skin. Biofilms are bacteria clumps that form into structures and they assist with anchoring to your skin. Possible remedies become complicated because various type of P. acnes are helpful to your skin. However, Gallo is confident that his team’s discovery will help find more successful treaments.
This could also be the reason why some people are more prone to acne than others. Some individuals pores are suffocating. Also, some people may received genes which cause their skin to have a greater inflammation risk. Their skin may also have bacteria strains that create fatty acids in an excessive amount.
There is a theory that teenagers are destined to breakout more often because sex hormones push the production of sebum. The additional sebum allows the P. acnes located in the pores to create larger amounts of the fatty acids which leads to inflamed skin and finally more acne.
Gallo plans to conduct new tests on different skin samples to confirm the results.
