Tea Tree Oil Treats Acne Breakouts
Tea tree oil or Melaleuca is steam distilled and comes from the tea tree plant which is native to Australia. Using a product that has oil to treat a problem that is typically caused by overproduction of oil may seem like a contradiction. However, studies proven by the Medical Center at the University of Maryland, shows the use of this certain oil treatment to be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide. Also, it has shown to have less negative side effects. This oil is natural and also a great choice to using man made chemicals. However, some people with sensitive skin may find this oil to be irritating. So doing a skin test on a small area of your skin is best before applying it directly to the face.
How To Use Tea Tree Oil
Do a little test on a small area of your skin to check your sensitivity to the oil at full strength. Put a couple of drops of tea tree oil on a clean cotton swab. Then apply the tea tree oil to your forearm. Check your skin to make sure it does not become itchy, burn or become red during the 2 hours. If you show now adverse signs, you can use tea tree oil full strength safely. If you notice that your skin is a little irritated, you will need to dilute oil it with equal parts warm water.
Wash your hand and face with a gentle cleanser. Then rinse it well with water.
Dip a clean cotton swab with tea tree oil and apply the oil right on your acne breakouts. Do not rinse. Performing this process both morning and evening is best.
Make an astringent wash by including four drops of the oil to some water. Use the rinse mixture once daily.
Make your own facial mask using one egg white and add four drops of the oil. Mix well, and apply the mixture to a clean face. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, after rinsing with warm water. Use this facial combination mask no more than once weekly.
Do not use tea tree oil treatments if your skin begins to appear irritated or red.
Only use 100% pure tea tree oil. Incidentally, If you buy oil that has other ingredients added to it, it could irritate or cause redness to your skin. To treat issues with your scalp, mix a couple of drops of oil in with your shampoo.
